We regret to announce the passing of Tommy W. Newland, a dedicated individual known for his unwavering service to his country and community. Mr. Newland was born on July 7, 1953, in Greenfield, OH, and tragically departed from this world on March 5, 2024, at his residence in Hillsboro, OH. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd H. and Marie Shoemaker and sister, Eleanor Maness.
During his remarkable life, Tommy exemplified loyalty and dedication through his service in the United States Marines, where he served as a Drill Sergeant for 20 years. Following his tenure in the military, he continued his commitment to public service as a Correction Officer in Ohio and Missouri. Upon retiring from his second career, he returned to his roots and pursued his passion for agriculture, embarking on a fulfilling journey as a cattle farmer in his hometown.
Tommy leaves behind a legacy of hard work and perseverance that will be cherished by his surviving brothers, Clarence Shoemaker of Sarasota, FL, Floyd D. Shoemaker of Hillsboro, Lee Shoemaker of Lebanon and Gary Garvie of Hillsboro, niece, Lori (Joe) Kelly of Hillsboro and nephew, Lloyd (Barbara) Shoemaker of Hillsboro. His impact on the lives he touched and the communities he served will be remembered for years to come.
Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Wednesday March 13, 2024, at the Thompson Funeral Home. Friends may call from 5:00 PM until time of services on Wednesday at the Thompson Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be 11:00 am on Monday March 18, 2024, at the Dayton National Cemetery.
