V. Leroy Hammond, 95 years of Hillsboro, Danville Community passed away Monday February 4, 2013 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Highland County on August 19, 1917 the son of the late Walter Vernon and Grace Lucille McGrew Hammond. Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Louise Rogers Hammond on January 30, 1996;
one granddaughter; one son-in-law, Marlin "Pete" Little; one sister Ruby VanPelt.
He was a member of the Danville Church of Christ, served as a trustee for Hamer Township for 2 terms, drove a school bus for Hillsboro City Schools for 15 years and was a truck driver for 66 years.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Janet Hammond; two daughters and son-in-law Barbara Little of Wilmington, Carol and John Templin of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Troy Heather Hammond, Kelley Bob Condo, Doug Debbie Little, Tanya West, Chad Alison Davis, Brian Rebeca Davis; eight great grandchildren, Serena & Brianna Hammond, Wyatt & Katie Condo, Andrew & Lauren Davis, Sarah & Leah West; two great great grandchildren, Ava & Lilah West; two brothers, Robert Hammond of Hillsboro, Tom Hammond of Hillsboro; one sister, Betty Hanner of Washington C.H.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Dale McCamish will officiate with burial to follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
