Virgie Lee McLaughlin, 98, of Hillsboro passed away at Heartland of Hillsboro on Sunday, July 12, 2009.
She was born on October 4, 1910 in Brown County, OH, the daughter of Virgie Virginia Pollitt and Charles Lee Prine.
Virgie was a graduate of Lynchburg High School and Wilmington College, a member of Alpha Phi Kappa Sorority, taught school for 29 years, a 38 year member of the Highland County Retired Teachers Association and Necrology Chairman for 8 years. She was a resident of Hillsboro and a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ for 72 years; member and pianist of the Loyal Christians Sunday School Class, member of the THEO group; Penny-A-Meal Bank collector and secretary; teacher and superintendent of the Primary Dept; Ladies Prayer Group and Bible Study; pianist for devotional programs at Heartland and Laurel Nursing Homes; a 60 year member of the Hillsboro Chapter #441 Order Eastern Star; a 57 years member of the Daughters of America Lodge #286; a 45 year member of the Hillsboro Mother's Club:; a member of the Hillsboro Woman's Club; member of the Highland County Senior Citizens and a collector for the Cancer Drive for 20 years.
Virgie is survived by two sons, Robert M. McLaughlin of Cincinnati and James L. McLaughlin of Zanesville; daughter-in-law, Gayle McLaughlin; three grandchildren: Craig Lori McLaughlin of Hudson, Mindy Dave Hinaman of Cincinnati and Shannon Mike Italia of Jacksonville Florida: five great grandchildren; Dana Leslie, Cory Daniel and Nathan David Hinaman, Morgan Hope and Robert Mason McLaughlin, nieces & nephews, many loving neighbors and friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barker McLaughlin, May 10, 1987; four brothers, Wade, Wayne, Homer and Walter who died at birth; four sisters, Juel Kain, Grace Brown, Ethel Gossett and Edith Young.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Thompson Funeral Home, 241 E. Main Street, Hillsboro, OH 45133. The funeral will be held at the Hillsboro Church of Christ, 155 West Walnut Street, Hillsboro, OH 45133, on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11:00 A.M.. with John Porter and Matt Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 ? 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning.
