Walter E. "Walt" Garman, 88 years of Hillsboro, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, OH.

He was born September 23, 1925 in Pike County, OH., the son of the late William C. and Cecile F. Washburn Garman. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Avonelle Avie Allison Garman on October 30, 1994, two brothers Jack and Dane Garman, one sister Mona Pearce.

Walt was a 1943 graduate of Hillsboro High School. After graduation, Walt served his Country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was a 1950 graduate of THE Ohio State University. Walt worked for the Central Ohio Breeding Association for 15 years, Was the Organization Director for Farm Bureau and retired from the Donald E. Fender Realtor after 27 years of service as a real estate agent.

Walt was a member of the Hillsboro 1st United Methodist Church, Hillsboro Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow, Highland Lodge #38 F.&A.M., Hillsboro Lodge #361 B.P.O.E., Highland County Senior Citizens, Highland County Farm Bureau, Highland County Honor Guard, Hillsboro AMVETS Post #61, Hillsboro VFW Post #9094, Hillsboro American Legion Post #129.

Walt is survived by his wife Sarah Irene Justice Garman, one daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dan Speakman of Hillsboro, OH., step-daughter Vicki Steve Fligor of Greenfield; three sons and daughters-in-laws, Gary and Jeanne Garman of Wilmington, Bruce Garman of New Vienna, Jeff and Kim Garman of Cincinnati; step-son Bruce Deb Gilmore of Allen, TX, four grandchildren, Bradley Stephanie Garman, Matthew Ciara Garman , Jonathan Garman and Carly Andrew Nicholas; four great grandchildren, Morgan and Sophia Garman and Noah and Ryan Garman, six step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, George and Jeanne Garman of Pittsburg, PA., sister-in-law, Jewell Garman of Greenfield, OH. several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Hillsboro 1st United Methodist Church with Dr. Derek Russell officiating.

Burial will follow with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard at the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday March 6, 2014 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Memorials may be made to the Donor's favorite Charity.
