**Obituary for William "Bill" R. Leininger**
William R. "Bill" Leininger, age 91, of Hillsboro, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2025. He was born on May 16, 1933, in Highland County, Ohio, son of the late Russell L. and Blanche (Pence) Leininger. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his great great grandson, Beau Kelley; three sisters, Phyllis Frazer, June Zugg and Isabelle Ludwick.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, a testament to his commitment to serving others. After returning home, he spent 33 years as a dedicated employee at A.T. & T., where he made lasting friendships while supporting his family. He was a proud graduate of Belfast High School, Class of 1951, where he not only played on the basketball team.
Bill was a member of the Marshall Church of Christ, where he found community and fellowship among friends. He cherished the simple joys of life; he loved to fish, hunt, camp, and travel with family and friends. His passion for woodworking produced many treasures that will be cherished by those he loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Shirley E. (Theiss) Leininger, who were united in marriage on August 7, 1956; They were blessed with three loving children, his son, Mark (Lisa) Leininger; his daughters, Melinda Leininger Kelley and Michelle "Shelli" Leininger; and his adored grandchildren: Cassidy (Chris) Overstake, Cody Kelley, Clayton (Ashley) Leininger, Ashley Ann (Curtis) Mootispaw, and Jacob Paul (Lindsey) Leininger. Bill also took great joy in his great-grandchildren: Logan (Layla) Kelley, Kendall Spriggs, Cade Overstake, Henley Mootispaw, Mason Mootispaw, and Lylah Leininger, who brought him immense happiness and pride and great great grandson, Warren Kelley; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Public viewing will take place Friday, April 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Thompson Funeral Home, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro.
Funeral service will be held at Friday at 1:00 PM at the Thompson Funeral Home.
Tom Stoops will officate services with burial to follow in the Prospect Cemetery.
Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard at the
cemetery.
