William J. Bill Lawless, 75 years old of Latham, died Friday , September 19, 2003 at the Pike Community Hospital in Waverly.
He was born in Waverly on September 19, 1928, the son of the late Jennings and Ruby Bowling Lawless. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Frump Lawless on August 16, 1974, one grandchild, one brother and one sister.
Bill was a lifelong farmer, a 1948 graduate of Western-Latham High School where he lettered in basketball and band, served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marine and received the Purple Heart, a life member of the DAV.
He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Lawless of Melbourne, FL., Danny Lawless of Lucasville, Ohio, William O. and Ginger Lawless of Piketon, Ohio, David A. and Kimberly Lawless of Portsmouth, Ohio, John S. and Tammi Lawless of Waverly, Ohio; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barb Lewis of Sciotoville, Ohio, Betty Lawless of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Paula K. and Mitch Chaffin of Portsmouth, Ohio, Garnett and Joe Nelson of Portsmouth, Ohio; one brother James B. Lawless of Lucasville, Ohio; one sister Phyllis Jean McKee of Lucasville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring. The Rev. Carey Hilterbran will officiate with burial to follow in the East Cemetery near Latham, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #142. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home.
