Wilma Leone Dick Copeland 93 years of Cincinnati died Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Hamilton, OH. She was born on January 3, 1911 to Loyal and Mary Lucas Dick in Marshall, OH. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1928. She attended Maryville College in Tennessee and graduated in 1932. She was married to James Reed Copeland on June 26, 1935. to this union, two children were born, Barbara Elise Copeland and Robert Loyal Copeland.
Upon graduation from college in 1932, she returned to teach at Marshall High School. She also taught in the Morgan Township, Fairfield, and Hamilton Schools. In 1961, she and her husband moved to Florida where they both continued to teach. She returned to Ohio in 1965 and taught in the Princeton Schools until her retirement in 1970. She counts as one of the highlights of her life and career the year spent living and teaching in England. In 1950-1951 the family moved to Aylsham, England and she and her husband both taught in schools there. She maintained correspondence with friends made during that time up until her death.
Wilma was also an accomplished pianist and she played at many churches where the family attended. Often times her husband, J. Reed, directed the choirs.
Her husband preceded her in death on February 4, 1991 after nearly 56 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Cecil L.; a sister and brother-in-law, Sara Dick Day and Bill Day; a nephew Keith Allen Day; and her son-in-law Jack Chandler.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her children, Barbara Chandler, Fairfield, Robert Marilyn L. Copeland, Morgan Township. She is survived by her grandchildren, Helen E. Tim Johnson of San Diego, CA; Nancy J. Chandler of Fairfield, Robert L. Paula Copeland of Hamilton, and Jeffrey L. Copeland of Cincinnati. Fourteen Great-grandchildren survive: Taryn, Taylor, Patrick, Samuel, Joseph, Drew, Kendra, Mackenzie, Lily, Brittney, Ashley, Josh, Lindsey and Zachary. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends and many of who are former students.
The family wishes to thank the Margie Berryman and the staff of Cottingham Retirement Community, VITAS Hospice @ Fort Hamilton Hospital, and Dr. James Simcoe for their loving care so graciously given during Wilma?s life. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
